Assessment Task
During this assessment task, which takes place during Lesson 4 of the Design and Technologies mini-unit, students will design and correctly draw a basic circuit diagram, which they must correctly label using appropriate technical terms and graphical representation used throughout this unit. They must then create the designed circuit using a range of basic electrical materials/components, such as wire, batteries, bulbs and switches.
There is an Assessment Task sheet provided [link below] for students to draw their circuit diagram on and write an explanation of how their circuit works. This task could be adapted for differentiation, by allowing students to complete it using digital technologies and software such as Microsoft Word and Paint, or other drawing software.
A rubric for the assessment task has also been provided [link below] for use in the marking of this assessment task. Students will be assessed on:

- Designing a product or system which uses electrical energy to control light.
- Communicating designed electrical system using appropriate technical terms and graphical representation, in the form of a circuit diagram and written explanation.
